The new Droid ad infers that other touch phones are beauty queens while the Droid is ugly but functional.  The metaphor the commercial uses is a racehorse duct taped to SCUD missile.  I’m not a marketing whiz by any stretch of the imagination but I think Verizon and Droid need to seriously consider connecting their service and phone with a 1950’s era missile that has been used to attack Israel in 1977,  fired by both Iran and Iraq during their war in the 80’s, and used against US troops in the first Gulf War.

Watch carefully and you’ll see that the missile doesn’t appear to be a SCUD at all but, resembles the American Polaris missile.

I suppose Verizon and Droid want to emotionally connect their phone with a Soviet weapon system employed by such wonderful countries as North Korea, Iran, and Vietnam for some particular reason.  Perhaps Droid is going to go for the left over international market where other touch phones are not available. Why would you sell to the American market by comparing your product to an adversarial missile system?

The Macbook Pro issues resolved nicely, but now the connectivity issue has derailed the show.  I’ve got no DSL at the northern command post  presently and Fairpoint said they would fix it in 2-3 business days.  That puts me at tomorrow…

My new macbook pro has arrived and I’m nearly done transfering my old data from backups onto the new machine.  Yes, I received a completely new machine from the 2009 design family.

My late 2008 Macbook Pro was exhibiting the freeze up problem when running on the higher graphics setting.  My local Apple service center replaced my RAM, the motherboard and the upper case and I still had the problem.  I sent the machine to Apple’s repair center in Tennessee and it still had the problem.  I even tried to upgrade to Snow Leopard and still I’d freeze up for no reason.

Apple replaced the machine last week with a new Macbook Pro and I’ve been freeze free.  The Applecare team was very helpful through the whole ordeal.

Now that I’ve got my machine back I expect to be updating TechNews Vermont on a more regular basis.  I may even get a podcast done.

I had to return my Macbook Pro to Ormsby’s today, it continues to freeze up.  They are going to order a new logic board and that should clear up the problem.  Many users on the Apple support forums are reporting this type of problem with the late 2008 macbook pro.

Until my main machine returns there won’t be any podcasts.  I’m working to fix that problem for the future, but this week looks fairly sketchy as far as the podcast goes.
